Fan since: I was lucky enough that my family brought me to watch Star Wars in the theatre at 6 years old. It left an indelible mark on me and inspired me to pursue visual arts. My wife Jaime is also a Legion Member, and we have a youngling daughter who will have lots of costumes in her future!

I graduated from Emily Carr and Capilano University with a background in graphic design and illustration. I have been a designer for many years, including career in a gaming as a UI artist, 3D modeler, concept artist, character designer, Art Director and Creative Director at Electronic Arts for 16 years. I currently run a mobile game studio called Nine Tail Studios. I also make props and costumes for fun and sometimes take on the odd commission here and there.

My goal is to grow the 501st Legion membership in BC, help new recruits on their adventures and continue our long standing relationships with charities and community groups.

Fan since: …as long as I can remember. Star Wars has always been there, it’s always been a part of my life. However, I do remember being just old enough to see Return of the Jedi in the theatres when it first came out.

I’ve always wanted my very own Stormtrooper costume. Back when I was studying Industrial Design in university I had plans all drawn up, and access to a full fabrication shop, where I was going to build my own set of Stormtrooper armour. Sadly, like most students I didn’t have the time, or more importantly the money, to dedicate to such an awesome extra-curricular project. Needless to say, I was just a wee bit excited when I found out about the 501st Legion from one of my coworkers! Why I’m a Tie Fighter Pilot now, instead of a Stormtrooper? Well, that’s a story for another time.

The main reason I’m a part of the 501st, apart from providing an excuse to dress up as a plastic-spaceman, is all of the charity work the Legion is involved with. Seeing kids’ faces, both young and old, light up when we walk in a room, and knowing that our presence is actually making a difference in people’s lives is a great feeling, and a worthy cause…even if it is a bit nerdy!

I currently live in Victoria where I work at the Royal BC Museum as an exhibition designer. It’s a pretty cool gig. It’s kind of a mash-up of industrial and graphic design, with a bit of architecture and interior design thrown in just to spice things up. Plus I don’t know too many other jobs where I could handle a 16th century Katana sword, have access to a room full of dead-things-in-jars, or ride a Wooly Mammoth…okay, maybe not the last bit, apparently that’s “highly frowned upon”.

It’s been great to watch the Outer Rim grow from a squad to full garrison status these past few years. I’m looking forward to the continued growth of the garrison as we move forward, especially here on the island!

Fan Since: I’ve been hooked since 1977, when I saw that opening scene of the Imperial Star Destroyer chasing the small cruiser to the ends of the galaxy, traveling right over the crowd in the theatre.  The shear magnitude of its size and the rumbling of its propulsion system made it clear that this was going to change everything for me.  I let myself get immersed and forget, for a couple of hours at least, which planet I was on.

I discovered the 501st after my wife said I needed a hobby.  Needless to say, it wasn’t what she had in mind…but in the end she is the real trooper.

I’m originally from Switzerland but grew up in Montreal.  I went to McGill University where I studied Business Management.  I worked for many years in the Industrial space which allowed me to visit all of Canada, parts of Europe and the US. We’ve lived in Moncton and Calgary before making our way to Vancouver.  I remember vividly when I decided to move here.  It was February and I was living in Montreal at the time and had to go to Vancouver on business.   I left the freezing cold and the 4′ of snow in my front lawn.  I arrived at YVR where I saw green grass, people jogging in shorts (which I still think is nuts) and flowers in bloom in the Hotel’s flower boxes.  I knew then where we were going to live!

I’m looking forward to maintaining and growing the long standing relationships with charities and community groups.

Fan since: 1977….I was 3 and my parents took me. Long story….
I’m originally from New York. Born in Brooklyn, raised in Staten Island. I moved out here for my wife and kids in 2006. I absolutely LOVE it, even if there is quite a bit of a culture shock now and again! :)

I graduated High School in 1992….and after joining the 501st in 2010, I also decided to go back to school to pursue a career in Filmmaking. I’m also University certificated in web design, I’ve ran and coded private and large public websites since 1996, I ran the two largest Official Community Fansites for World of WarCraft and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. I’ve made a few films, one of them being a documentary about how the 501st has impacted my life and my family’s life. I hope to get the chance to go to Vancouver Film School at some point, but until then I’m just going to keep making whatever films I can!

My reasons and goals for joining and being here is to give people the magic that is missing. That escape. That moment, be they children or adult, that they can go back to those innocent days, seeing, talking to, taking pictures with the characters we ALL love. I consider it a privilege and my HONOUR to Troop with the people I troop with, to BE these characters I get to be, from every walk, to every hospital to every LucasFilm-Requested Event, I get to gear up with my friends in the best gear possible and make some lives a little bit happier, even for a moment.

Fan Since: ….it first hit the local Odeon Theater in ’77. Back in the day, folks usually applauded after a good film. This one left ’em standing……night after night. I had always been a fan of all things science and “spacy” but this film blew my young mind to pieces.

I originally wanted to put together a Tie Pilot kit for myself and through my research, I stumbled across the 501st. I had no idea that such a club even existed and learning that they were an organization engaged in charitable causes, as well, made it that much better. I am a big supporter and participant in volunteering and therefore it seemed to me to be a perfect fit.

I’ve always believed that if you want to meet really interesting, caring, and downright cool people, just volunteer in your community. The 501st in general, and our Garrison in particular is a great example of this. I am very proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of sincere, generous, accepting and fun folks and take great pleasure in trooping with all I’ve been fortunate enough to meet.

Fan Since: My older brothers came back from the theatre and rambled on about some princess and a bad guy in black as they jumped on the couches pretending to swing across an imaginary chasm. Sensing their enthusiasm, I just had to see the movie! I did…and I was hooked. I collected all the toys and it consumed every second of my play time. While my interest reached its peak around the release of ESB, it has always been there…lurking…waiting to be revived.

It occurred to me in later years that my friend and I always used to pretend to be Han and Luke dressed in stormtrooper gear. That itch to dress up in white armour had always been there. Every few years I would look into getting myself a kit: as a student, I couldn’t afford it; as a new parent, I couldn’t justify it. I’ve finally reached the point in my life where I could afford it and could justify it—to myself at least. I found the 501st and realized that there are a lot of others with like stories and a similar unifying passion. Proudly, I can say that self-same passion is being passed on to my son and my little brother, who are both in the Galactic Academy and troop with us regularly.

I’ve been spreading the word about the 501st to my friends and family. I hope that in my role as Garrison Public Relation Officer, I am able share some of that same enthusiasm with potential recruits and grizzled veterans, alike.

Fan Since: A few years ago I gave my wife her Stormtrooper costume as a birthday present when she turned REDACTED. It’s not that I knew she’d love a Stormtrooper costume, more that I knew she wouldn’t troop alone so that would mean she would insist I get a kit of my own (my plan all along). So as you can see from very early on I knew I was going to be a member of the dark side, no Rebel shenanigans for me.

My first event was Vcon in 2010 we had about 8-10 troopers at the event. Even back then there was so much energy I think we all knew the Outer Rim Squad was headed in a great direction.

I have been the Merchandise Officer for the Special Operations Detachment almost since my first day in the Legion. I was also the Merch. Officer for the Badlands Garrison (while the Outer Rim was still a squad in their Garrison).

Over the years I have been fortunate to have put together a wide array of production runs for Troopers from across the globe and I am looking forward to using this experience to benefit my fellow Outer Rim troopers.

Fan since: I grew up just when Star Wars first came out. My family had the original CBS VHS cassettes and I’m pretty sure I burned a hole in each tape from the amount of times I’ve seen them. Whenever I was sick, or there was bad weather…or just because I hadn’t seen them in a while, there was never a bad excuse to watch the most amazing trilogy ever.

I’m a teacher in the Greater Victoria School District. Currently I teach Yearbook and Digital Media, but also have teachable areas in Visual Art and Theatre.

Lastly, I have a photography business where I specialize in corporate and event photography.

Fan since: I’ve been a fan as long as I can remember. I remember seeing Empire for the first time at home on VHS and I was old enough to see Jedi in theater for the first time. I never thought I could take my love of Star Wars and use it to do some good. I’ve always wanted Stormtrooper armor but it wouldn’t have actually happened without the 501st.

I majored in Sociology and minored in Psychology with a specialization in Criminology in University. I wanted to be a police officer (or Batman based on my choice of post-secondary education if you ask Kevin Smith) but my body refused to co-operate with me unfortunately. I’ve been working in the video game industry at Electronic Arts for the past 7 years in QA.

My goal with the 501st is to troop as often as I am able and to be a good ambassador for our Garrison, the Legion, and Star Wars. I love helping new recruits get started and will continue to do so as frequently as possible. I will do my part to not only help make the Garrison something to be proud of but to make it a family as well.

Fan since: Geez, I dunno!  My dad and I used to watch the original trilogy all the time back in the 80’s and 90’s.

I graduated from University of British Columbia North with a degree in Psychology.  I work in the videogame industry as a junior programmer and QA Lead for Demonware/Activision.  I also play and run several tabletop role-playing games, including a Star Wars : Edge of the Empire campaign.

My goal is to help grow our Garrison through event coordination, help new recruits, and build excellent relationships with our fellow costuming clubs, local charities, and businesses!
